❖ Nova Nektar Tatu ❖

Tēnā koutou,
Ko Myka tōku ingoa - I'm Myka
A little about my journey & offering of handpoke tatu.
I began my tattooing path in 2017, by mentorship across South America. In the beginning I was lucky to have brief guidance from handpoke craftswoman of many years, followed by self-dedicated practice.
This spaciousness allowed me to learn tatu in a way that was free from boundaries created by western studio mentality. Through this I realised the importance of giving every persons visions the space to become & the depth that these ancient traditions can give us when they have more time.
Specializing in one of a kind, mostly freehand tattoos. Symbols that speak without words. That carry stories & significance to every experience. My work blends liminal codes, calligraphy & ancestral symbolism. Drawing inspiration from tribal and neo-tribal influence woven with each persons unique lineage.
Rooted in ritual & devotion, my handpoke practice is an offering, slow and intentional.
That each mark may be a reflection of ancestral memory & personal transformation.
The desire of my work is to be a quiet rebellion — a return to sacred tools, sacred time, and the stories carried in our skin.

☉ TATU PROCESS - the journey home ☉
For me this process is about cocreation. About telling the story together and letting the symbols speak.
It's about reclamation of these ancient traditions & practices that give us belonging in this world.
It's about remembering the importance symbology held to those who came before us. Of course, much of this history was lost but we continue to weave with fragments & visions from the liminal spaces.
For me many of the symbols I carry have self created meaning, before any knowledge of my lineage I was seeking meaning & depth within it all. Out of fear & respect of crossing cultural boundaries & having no sense of belonging, I sought symbols that were from the in between, the liminal spaces, that touched nothing & everything simultaneously. The symbols of nature, the patterns of life that have imprinted beyond time. As I finally began to learn a little about my ancestral lineage, I've begun to speak with those symbols too. & I wish this belonging for all.
My deepest wish is that through reconnection to our ancestral symbols & tatu traditions that we may heal our relationships with our ancestors. Weather that is with liminal codes or specific cultural symbols, I feel they will hear our call. & through this reconciliation & honouring we will begin a journey of symbolic neotribal rebirth.
For after all, one day we will be the ancestors.
